Zenzai is a traditional Japanese dessert made with sweet red bean paste in a warm soup made from sugar, water and rice flour. This sweet and comforting dessert is a staple of Japanese cuisine and is often eaten during the colder months.

Zenzai

Material:

• 1 cup red bean paste

• 1 cup of sugar

• 1 cup of water

• 2 tbsp rice flour

• green tea powder (optional)

• Toppings of your choice (mochi, chestnuts, whipped cream, etc.)

Instructions:

1. Put sugar and water in a medium pot and mix. Place over medium heat and stir until sugar dissolves.

2. In another bowl, mix rice flour and a small amount of water to form a paste. Pour the paste into the pan with the sugar mixture and stir until well combined.

3. Bring the mixture to a boil and stir until thickened, about 2-3 minutes.

4. Remove the pan from the heat, spread the red bean paste evenly, and mix until smooth.

5. Place the zenzai in a bowl. You can sprinkle matcha powder if you like.

6. Warm the zenzai, top with your favorite ingredients and serve. Popular toppings include mochi, chestnuts, and whipped cream.

This recipe makes zenzai for 4-6 people.

Adjust the amount of sugar and red bean paste to your liking. If you prefer a thicker soup, you can add rice flour. It's the perfect sweet for those who want to warm up on a cold day!
